Working Mother Deferment

If you are the working mother of a preschool-age child and have recently entered or re-entered the work force, you may qualify for a working mother deferment. This deferment postpones payments due on your student loan account while you qualify for up to 12 months.

To qualify, you must complete a request for deferment form in which you state that you:

bulletAre the mother of a preschool-age child (not yet enrolled in first grade);
bulletWork full-time (at least 30 hours per week) in a job that you expect to last at least three months;
bulletEarn no more than $1.00 per hour above the minimum wage;
bulletEntered or re-entered the workforce within the past year.

You will also need to be able to supply evidence of your child’s age (e.g., copy of a birth certificate) and evidence of your wages (e.g., pay stub).

If you think you may qualify for this type of deferment, click here to view and print a working mother deferment request form.  Please read the form carefully to make sure you qualify, and follow the instructions on the form.

If you have loans that are serviced by more than one servicer, please print a form for each servicer and print the name or your servicer on each form.  Mail your completed form(s) to us at:
